Motorists are being warned the Limerick Tunnel will be closed, in both directions, for two nights to facilitate an upgrade of control systems
Motorists travelling from Clare to Limerick are being advised to plan ahead as the operators of the Limerick Tunnel say it will be closed for two nights this week to facilitate works.
Last month, Egis Lagan Services, which undertakes motorway maintenance and renewals work, confirmed details the closures which will be in place for several hours each night.
"A full closure of the Limerick Tunnel is planned for this Tuesday, July 8 and Wednesday, July 9 to facilitate an upgrade of control systems," reads the notice.
"For the avoidance of any doubt, the tunnel will be closed in both directions during the works," adds the notice.

Motorists are being advised the closures will take effect at 7.30pm each night and will remain in place until 6am the following morning.
All traffic travelling from Clare will be diverted from the N18 at Junction 4 (Cratloemoyle) via the R445 (Ennis Road), R527 (Dock Road) and R510 (Dock Road) while traffic travelling from Limerick in the direction of Shannon will be diverted at Junction 2 (Dock Road).

While the works will be carried out overnight at non-peak times, motorists who are travelling on either night are advised to allow additional time when planning their journey as the diversion route could add up to ten minutes to their travel times.
