Clare motorist pays the penalty for driving with excessive tints on windows

Gardai say the windows of the BMW car were so dark, they could not see the driver

A motorist who was stopped on the M18 motorway has been directed to remove tinted windows from a BMW car which was stopped by Clare gardai.

Members of the divisional Roads Policing Unit were on duty on Tuesday when they encountered the vehicle.

"The windows were so tinted they could barely see the driver. Testing showed that the tint only allowed 15% light to pass through the window, the minimum requirement is for 65% of light be able to pass through," read a post on social media highlighting the detection.

"The driver was directed to remove the tints and issued a fine and 2 penalty points," added the post.
