Road closures in place to facilitate Ennis Public Realm Regeneration Project

Several road closures in Ennis will take effect from this Monday to facilitate works on the multi-million euro Ennis Public Realm Regeneration Project.

In a public notice, published last month, Clare County Council announced details of the planned closures at O'Connell Street and High Street. for most of 2024. 

The local authority says High Street, from Harvey’s Quay/Salt House Lane to Bank Place/O’ Connell Square, will be closed to all traffic from January 8 to July 31. There will be no through road from Abbey Street to O’Connell Street for the duration of the closure.

In the case of O'Connell Street, the closure, from O’ Connell Square to Station Road junction, will be in place from this Monday until December 21. A similar closure, from the Old Barrack Street junction to Carmody Street junction, will be in place until April 26.

There will be no through road via Salt House Lane to Bank Place/O’Connell Square for the duration of the closure a traffic being diverted from Harvey’s Quay via Old Friary Lane.

Funded under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) with 25% match funding from Clare County Council, the project will be delivered in phases to minimise disruption to local business. 

Pedestrian and service access will be facilitated at all times and affected businesses and residents will be kept informed throughout the construction period. 

The works are due to be completed in late 2025 and Uisce Éireann is funding the delivery of the foul sewer upgrade in parallel.
