MET Éireann is warning that further severe weather conditions can be expected in Clare and across the country later this week.

The forecaster has issued a new Status Orange Low Temperature/Ice warning for several counties, including Clare.

The Status Orange warning - the second this week - is due to come into effect at 6pm on Wednesday.

"Extremely cold on Wednesday night with widespread temperatures below -5 degrees leading to severe frost and ice," states the warning, which was issued this Tuesday evening and which will remain in place until midday on Thursday.

A separate Status Yellow Low Temperature/Ice warning for Ireland remains in place until midday on Friday.

The National Emergency Coordination Group met again this Tuesday morning to assess the national and local picture during the ongoing cold weather this week. It says it has been advised that current indications suggest a return to milder conditions at the weekend.

Motorists are being urged to exercise caution of driving during the current poor weather.
