Clare County Council are encouraging the public to have their say in regards to the pedestrianisation of O’Connell Street in Ennis

Ahead of drawing up plans for these possible pedestrianisation measures, the Ennis Municipal District has provided an online survey asking residents, businesses and visitors to the county town for their feedback on full or partial pedestrianisation.

Currently, O’Connell Street is closed to all vehicles until February 16 2026, allowing the public to familiarise themselves with the new streetscape following the completion of multimillion-euro Public Realm works.

During this period, Clare County Council has invited the public, business community and visitors to Ennis to share their views on future access, traffic flow and the pedestrianisation of O’Connell Street through this online survey.

It is now live on the Clare County Council website and will remain live until January 4, with physical copies of the survey available at Council buildings, including libraries.

The survey will capture people's individual preferences for navigating O'Connell Street and will inform future decision making. Individual responses will be kept confidential, however, the Council intend on publishing the overall results of the survey when available.

Each individual will be limited to one response only. All fields marked with an asterisk must be completed otherwise the survey will be rendered invalid.

It is very short and includes a number of profiling questions. This information is being sought so the Council can stay informed on whether they are capturing the preferences of a broad range of users of the town.

There are a number of non-mandatory questions which seek individual opinions on pedestrianisation, infrastructural requirements and various forms of pedestrian friendly measures.
