New and improved zebra crossing signage a welcome upgrade for Ennis National School

Clare County Council appeals to all road users to familiarise themselves with this new crossing type

Clare County Council has introduced a new signage-only zebra crossing, as part of the Ennis National School's 'Safe Routes to School' scheme.

The type B zebra crossing replaces the former requirement for flashing beacons, as the new signs have a fluorescent yellow border around the edges.

All vehicles must now stop and yield right of way to a pedestrian or cyclist who is waiting to cross, or has commenced crossing the road. This is an updated requirement as previously vehicles would stop only when a pedestrian or cyclist has moved onto the crossing.

A spokesperson for Clare County Council took to social media to comment on these upgrades.

They said, "It is Clare County Council's intention to introduce this type of crossing in future installations, where the guidance permits.

"Clare County Council appeals to all road users to familiarise themselves with this new crossing type," they concluded.
