Clare County Council are to seek additional funding from the Department of Transport to tackle road conditions across the county.
The move comes in response to a motion brought before the March council meeting by Mayor of Clare Councillor Joe Cooney.
Cllr Cooney's motion calls for "emergency funding to tackle the current road disrepair and to bring the road network back to an appropriate standard".
The Department of Transport recommends that to adequately protect and maintain road networks, local authorities should undertake restoration interventions "on 10% of the network annually".
However according to the response given by senior executive engineer Michael McNamara, "it is estimated that 6% of the road network [in Clare] will be strengthened or surface dressed over the course of the programme".
He said the Roads and Transportation Section was committed to working with the Department to secure additional funding "for the betterment of the road network in Clare".
