More than €6 million in funding allocated for road and greenway projects in Clare

More than €6 million in funding has been allocated for works on national roads and greenways in Clare in 2024.

Details of the The funding, to be distributed by Transport Infrastructure Ireland, was announced by the Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan and Minister of State Jack Chambers this Thursday afternoon.

Clare County Council is to receive a total allocation of €6,035,946 for works to be carried out on national roads, greenways and Active Travel Schemes across the county over the next year.

Over half of the money (€3.24m) has  been earmarked for Capital Investment, including protection and renewal and Active Travel projects.

The largest projects to receive funding are pavement works on the N67 at Doonbeg (€1.16m), between Cloonbony and Rinneen (€700,000) and at Lisdoonvarna (€335,000).

A further €500,000 has been earmarked for minor works on the N19 Shannon Airport Access Road.

A €2.2 million allocation for local greenway projects will see the West Clare Railway project from Kilrush to Kilkee receive  €800,000 while the Ennis to Ennistymon greenway has been allocated a total of €650,000.

Other greenway projects to receive funding include:

*Limerick to Scarriff - O'Brien's Bridge to Scarriff (€300,000)

*Ennistymon to Milltown Malbay (€125,000)

*Milltown Malbay to Moyasta (€125,000)

*Shannon to Bunratty & onto Limerick (€120,000)

In addition, over €570,000 has been granted to Clare County Council for maintenance, general protection and renewal works during 2024.
