Clare decides: Local Elections 2024 Live Blog

Welcome to the Clare Live Local Election 2024 Live Blog!

We'll be bringing you all of the results, analysis and live updates from the Clare local election count centre at the Treacy's West County Hotel in Ennis, following Friday's polling.

There are 28 seats up for grabs on Clare County Council; seven in both Ennis and Shannon local electoral areas (LEA), five each in Kilrush and Killaloe electoral areas, and four in Ennistymon.

There are 59 candidates running the five LEAs, and of the 28 current sitting councillors, 23 are seeking reelection.

For the local elections, the counting of the ballots will start Saturday, June 8th. The ballot papers will be sorted and local and European ballots will be separated.

Counting of the locals will be conducted first, while the European ballot papers will be transported to Cork for counting on Monday morning.

The first seats will be filled by the afternoon, but the final results may not be counted for several days.

If that's the case, you can also expect some overlapping coverage of Sunday's Munster Senior Hurling Final between Clare and Limerick, after throw-in at 4pm in Semple Stadium, Thurles.
