The mixed Limerick and Clare group with MEP Kelly
Seán Kelly MEP for Ireland South welcomed a group of constituents to the European Parliament in Brussels recently.
The group of visitors from Counties Kerry, Limerick, Cork, Tipperary and Clare spent time learning about the Parliament and the daily life of an MEP.
The group followed an in-depth information session with MEP Seán Kelly, toured the Parliament’s plenary chamber and visited the European House of History to learn more about the history of the EU.
Kelly provided the group with an overview of his policy work and his parliamentary activities as a member of the energy (ITRE), trade (INTA) and constitutional affairs committees (AFCO). The group engaged in an open discussion with their representative and exchanged views on topical issues both at EU and national level.
“It is incredibly important that people in Ireland know what their local MEPs are doing here in the European Parliament. It is for this reason that I make it a priority to meet and engage with constituents as often as I can, in Brussels and in Ireland”, stated Kelly.
“Unfortunately, many people are not aware of how local issues can be brought to the attention of their MEP at EU level. My hope is that the visitors have the opportunity to gain a clearer insight today into what goes on here in Brussels.”
“I particularly enjoyed speaking to the group about Irish representation in the Parliament and in the European institutions overall. Many were unaware of the variety of possible career paths that the EU offers, especially for Irish speakers.”
After an informative day in the Parliament, the group spent the rest of their trip enjoying the Christmas markets in the cities of Ghent, Bruges and Brussels.
