Young boy sustains 'serious' injuries in Shannon crash

A young boy is being treated in hospital after he sustained serious injuries in a road crash in Co. Clare this Sunday afternoon.

The alarm was raised at around 2.15pm shortly after the incident happened at Purcell Park in Shannon.

It's understood the boy, who is aged ten, received medical attention at the scene and was later airlifted to University Hospital Limerick for further treatment.

"The child has been taken to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for injuries believed to be serious at this time," a garda spokesperson told Clare Live, this Sunday evening. 

The entrance to Purcell Park is currently closed to traffic to facilitate forensic and technical examinations of the scene with local diversions in place.

Investigations are ongoing and any witnesses are asked to contact gardai in Shannon.
