TURNING on the Christmas lights has been added to the festive-themed ceremonies happening in one Clare town this year.
The lights in Shannon town park will be switched on on Monday, December 4 at 6pm, with events for all ages kicking-off just beforehand at 5:30pm.
A visit from the one and only Santa Claus is on the cards, along with Ms Claus, as well as a Christmassy disco, sweets and treats and a choir performance from the Shannon Gospel Choir.

Local councillor Donna McGettigan said that she hopes the switching on of the lights in Shannon will be an annual occurrence and proposed doing so previously at a Shannon Municipal District meeting.
“This will be a positive for Shannon. I don’t think we’ve ever had an official turning on of the lights in Shannon before,” Cllr McGettigan said.
