ONE of the world's leading Formula One drivers made a quick pit-stop in Shannon Airport earlier this week while making his way to the final Grand Prix of the season.

Monaco's Charles Leclerc, who finished second in the Las Vegas Grand Prix at the weekend, is currently ranked seventh in the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship.

The 23-year-old, who has achieved 5 race wins and 23 pole positions in his career, is one of the most-popular and recognisable figures in the sport.

Ahead of the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix next weekend, the Ferarri driver posted on social media during what appears to have been a stopover at Shannon Airport.

"See you in Dubai" he wrote on Instagram where he has more than 13 million followers.

In the post, which was published on Monday evening, he shows a photo of a private jet on the tarmac while a second post shows a vinyl record playing inside the cabin before the camera pans to show the runway at Shannon.

Pratice for the  Abu Dhabi Grand Prix takes place on Friday and Saturday with qualifying taking place on Saturday afternoon.

The race begins at 1pm (Irish time) on Sunday.
