Community festival to bring Irish Open crowds to Clare village

Community festival to bring Irish Open crowds to Clare village

A COMMUNITY festival is being planned at one Clare village to coincide with the KPMG Women's Irish Open this year.

Dromoland Castle is set to host Europe's leading professional women's golf tournament for the second year in a row from August 31 to September 3.

Clare County Council (CCC) plan to stage a community festival in nearby Newmarket-on-Fergus, to ensure the village sees a greater economic bounce this year.

Anne Griffin, SEO of the Shannon Municipal District, announced The Green at Our Lady of the Rosary Church as the festival venue at Monday's meeting of the Shannon MD.

The festival will take place on September 2-3 and will feature free live music, events and street entertainment suitable for all ages.

"The Women's Irish Open gave a great boost locally and we really want to have an impact on Newmarket-on-Fergus," she said.

A full programme of events has yet to be released.
