Funding approved for flood mitigation works close to Clare village

FUNDING of nearly €80,000 has been approved for flood mitigation works at Gullets Cross, Carrowmore, Cratloe.
The Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Patrick O’Donovan, has announced the approval of Clare County Council’s application for funding under the Office of Public Works’ Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme.
The funding of €76,500 will allow works to be carried out to divert the flow from the spring into a nearby stream, and to install approximately 10 road gullies and a storm drain to remove any surface water.
Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey has welcomed the announcement.
“The work will help the council deal with long-standing drainage issues by diverting the flow from a spring into a nearby stream around 650 metres away. It will involve the instillation of ten road gullies and a 250mm storm drain to remove any surface water build-up as well as the upgrade of the existing 100mm pipe."
It's hoped the works will begin in the coming months.
