CLARE gardaí are are appealing for witnesses following a violent assault in Ennis over the Christmas period.

The assault took place on a young man in the Clare capital town on Thursday, December 22 before 3am.

The man, who is in his 20s, was socialising with a group of friends on Abbey Street when he was approached, struck in the head and knocked unconscious by another man.

Clare gardaí have informed that a number of witnesses have come forward, and thanked them for the information they have provided.

However, as the streets were busy on the night, they are appealing for further witnesses to come forward with any new information they may have in relation to the assault on the young man.

They said: "We are appealing to anyone else who may have witnessed this assault or anyone who may have camera footage to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100."
