Gardaí issue a special safety message for Leaving Cert students

AN GARDA Síochána has issued a special safety message to leaving certificate students in Clare, ahead of their results celebrations.
Gardaí have issued a message of congratulations and safety for all those receiving their results today, while reminding students to think of others and to be safe.
The statement reads: “We would ask students to be conscious of friends who may be disappointed with their results and, if celebrating, to have a plan in place.
“Be aware of your surroundings and look out for each other. Don’t drink to excess and keep your drink with you at all times, or ask a friend to mind your drink.”
The gardaí would like to remind people that the legal age to drink alcohol is 18 and if there is a person who doesn’t drink alcohol, to not give them a ‘hard time about it’.
“Remember, you have to be over 18 to legally obtain alcohol in pubs and nightclubs. There are loads of people who don’t drink – don’t give them a hard time about it. Respect other people’s choices.
“Some Leaving Cert students may have their own car – we would ask them to leave the car at home and if you are driving, don’t consume alcohol or drugs.
“We want to encourage students to look out for each other – if your friend is under the influence of alcohol - make sure they get home safely.”
A final message of safety to sixth year students from the gardaí is to not take a lift from a driver that has intoxicating liquor or drugs consumed.
