Clare's All-Ireland-winning hurlers and their star forward have been nominated for gongs in this weekend's RTÉ Sport Awards 2024.
This Sunday night, Joanne Cantwell, Darragh Maloney and Jacqui Hurley will present the RTÉ Sport Awards 2024 live on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
The Awards being handed out on the night in front of an audience of Irish sports stars include RTÉ Sport Sportsperson of the Year, RTÉ Sport Team of the Year, RTÉ Sport Manager of the Year and RTÉ Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year.
The Clare hurling team are among the four All-Ireland champions to make the nominee list for the RTÉ Sport Team of the Year. Brian Lohan’s men earned their fifth title for the Banner County and their first since 2013 when they defeated Kilkenny in July.
They’ll be up against Andy Farrell’s Ireland Rugby team, Damien Duff’s Shelbourne, and Ireland’s Olympic heroes in lightweight double sculls duo Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy, the 4x400m mixed relay team and road cycling Paralympians Katie George Dunlevy and Linda Kelly.
Talisman Clare forward Shane O’Donnell, who was recently crowned Hurler of the Year, is the only GAA personality to make the coveted Sportsperson of the Year nominee list alongside Olympians Rhys McClenaghan, Daniel Wiffen, Kellie Harrington, Paul O'Donovan and Katie-George Dunlevy.
Other contenders on the 12-name list include Katie Taylor, Paul Townend, Anthony Cacace, Rhasidat Adeleke, Ciara Mageean and Róisín Ní Ríain.
The RTÉ Sport Awards 2024 will be broadcast live on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player this Sunday night, December 15 at 9.30pm.
