Works to replace and upgrade more than 1km of old and damaged water mains in Ennistymon have been completed, Uisce Eireann has confirmed.

The utility says conserving water and driving down leakage continues to remain a priority for it as the works are critical in conserving precious water resources and providing a more secure and reliable water supply for local communities.

The works in Ennistymon, which were carried out as part Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, saw two sections of aging water mains replaced.

Works to replace over 550m of water mains were completed recently along the L-1050 at Sroohil while 900m of cast iron watermains were replaced along the Circular Road and in early 2024.

These replacement works commenced in January 2024 and were carried out in phases to minimise the disruption to traffic flow and to reduce the inconvenience caused to local residents.

Commenting following the completion of the works, Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager, Jack Cronin said: “The old water mains were prone to bursts and high levels of leakage. Replacing these aged and damaged water mains with modern pipes is a crucial step in reducing drinking water lost by leakage, improving water quality, and providing a stronger and more secure supply for generations to come. We thank the community for their warmth and patience while the works were being completed.”

Ward and Burke Construction Ltd carried out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
