Gardaí in Scariff are investigating the burglary which happened during Storm Éowyn
Gardaí in Scariff are investigating a burglary in the village during Storm Éowyn, which wreaked havoc in County Clare and across the country.
In an appeal for information, they say the culprits entered a retail premises at the Square in the village at around 2.30am last Friday - half-an-hour before a Met Éireann status red wind warning came into effect.
"The perpetrators forcefully entered the premises and a quantity of items were stolen from the shop," said a garda spokesperson who added: "Gardaí believe that the perpetrators fled Scariff in the direction of Ogonnelloe and travelled onto Newport after the burglary.

Investigating gardai say as the burglary happened during the early hours of Storm Éowyn, there were a small number of cars on the road at the time and they are appealing to anyone who saw anything unusual to come forward.
Anyone who observed a vehicle in the Scariff area on Thursday night or anyone who has any information in relation to the burglary is asked to contact Scariff garda station on 061 922790.
Gardai have not disclosed publicly exactly what was taken from the premises.
