According to new data from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), 268 new electric cars were registered in Limerick between January and the end of June. This compares to 128 during the same period in 2022 and 90 in 2021.
Meanwhile, the latest figures show that sales of new cars in Limerick, across all categories, are up by more than 18% so far this year.

Grey (39%), black (18%) and blue (16%) were the most-popular colour choices for those who bought new cars in Clare during the first six months of 2023.
Commenting on the latest figures, Brian Cooke, SIMI Director General said: "Year to date the EV market has exceeded 14,000 cars (nationally), an increase of 69% on last year. It should be highlighted that there still is a significant basket of incentive for EV buyers, including ongoing purchase and home charger grant support, VRT relief for many EVs, as well as low annual road tax. These supports, along with an increasing number of EV models coming to market, should ensure strong new car activity as we enter the 232 registration plate sales period."
