DRY and mostly cloudy to begin on Monday, with just the odd shower.

Longer sunny spells will develop towards evening. Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees, with mostly moderate westerly breezes, forecasts Met Eireann.

OUTLOOK: Mixed and changeable overall.

MONDAY NIGHT: Cloud will thicken from the Atlantic on Monday evening and Monday night. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will develop near Atlantic coasts by nightfall, gradually spreading eastwards overnight. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees in a light westerly or variable breezes, with some mist setting in locally.

TUESDAY: Any lingering overnight rain and drizzle in the east and southeast will soon clear on Tuesday morning, giving way to a bright fresh day with sunny spells and scattered light showers, these mainly affecting the west and north. Northwest winds will be mostly moderate in strength, occasionally fresh near northern and northwestern coasts. Top temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees, warmest in the southeast.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly dry overnight with long clear spells. A few showers will affect northern and western coastal areas, though. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees, in mostly light westerly breezes.

WEDNESDAY: Wednesday will start out bright and rather chilly with sunny spells for most. Cloud will tend to build by the afternoon, especially in the west and southwest, with a few scattered light showers breaking out, but there'll still be some sunny spells, especially in the east and north. Patchy rain and drizzle will develop in the west and southwest in the evening. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees in light westerly breezes.

THURSDAY: Cloudy and wet to begin on Thursday, with outbreaks of rain turning to showers as the day goes on. Some of the showers could be heavy and possibly thundery. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees, in light to moderate southerly winds, becoming variable in direction later.

FURTHER OUTLOOK: Current indications for Friday suggest sunny spells and showers at present.
