Clare surfer to represent Ireland in world championships
A CLARE surfer has been selected to participate in the World Surfing Championships & final Olympic qualifier in Puerto Rico.
Robin Keating, a self-employed cabinet maker in Clare, will represent Ireland as part of the 2024 Irish Surfing National Team next February.
Competing against professional surfers from around the world, Robin and his teammates are self-funding their trip to Puerto Rico. He has now raised a sufficient amount to go, thanks to a GoFundMe page.
Robin is an unsponsored free surfer, full-time family man, and a volunteer of the West Coast Surf Club and Surfrider Foundation.
He has made a remarkable recovery to earn a space with the Irish team, after sustaining a complex leg fracture only 18 months ago.
Successfully raising €3k, Robin has disabled the fundraiser having reached his goal.
