Clare resident convinced to hand over bank card in 'elaborate' fraud call

Fraudsters used card to withdraw money from the injured party’s account
Gardaí are investigating an "elaborate" fraud that occurred recently in county Clare.
The injured party in this case received a telephone call from a male, who told the injured party that there had been suspicious activity on their account.
The caller advised that a courier would come and collect the card and take it to a garda station to rectify the matter.
The fraudster then provided the injured party with a code and they were instructed to provide this to the courier.
Each of these steps convinced the injured party that this was a genuine call.
The caller remained on the phone and a female courier collected the card.
The two criminals then used this card to withdraw money from the injured party’s account.
"It is important that we continue to raise awareness about the ways in which criminals are operating," Sergeant Catriona Holohan, Clare Crime Prevention Officer said.
