Farmers in Clare and other counties are taking part in nationwide demonstrations in solidarity with their EU counterparts

Clare farmers will hold a tractor run protest in solidarity with their European counterparts this Thursday evening.

It's part of a nationwide protest being mounted by the Irish Farmers Association, as part of a wave of Europe-wide protests by farmers in recent weeks.

Speaking on ClareFM, Parteen-based farmer and IFA county chairman Tom Lane said while each European country has their own reasons for protesting, "our own predicament is that...unfortunately for the last number of years we've found that the farming community has been desecrated, and told how bad we are for the environment."

The Clare tractor runs will get underway from 4pm this Thursday evening, February 1.

Farmers will meet at Setrights Tavern in Cratloe, Duggans Pub in Spancilhill and the Inn at Dromoland before making their way over the N18 flyover at Junction 13.

Protests are also set to take place in every county across Ireland this Thursday evening.
