Local wildlife expert inspired child educational programme in the county

SELF-PUBLISHED children's author Shane Casey has retired his role as director in the Burrenbeo Trust.

Shane is from Clare and continues to farm with his family in the Burren. Having written a children's book based on local wildlife, called 'The Calf and the Cuckoo', the biodiversity officer inspired a school programme for children, including those with dyslexia.

The educational programme with the same name 'The Calf and the Cuckoo' is ran by the Burrenbeo Trust in Clare - "a landscape charity dedicated to connecting all of us to our places and our role in caring for them". Shane has recently retired his position in the Trust.

Shane studied Agriculture and Environmental Science in University College Dublin, and undertook his masters in Rural Development, recognising that the conservation of landscapes like the Burren required supporting the people who live and work there.

He has received many well wishes in his retirement for the long-serving role and inspiration he has given to the children of Clare.
