Delta Air Lines announces resumption of flights between Shannon and New York

U.S. airlines Delta is getting ready for its busiest-ever summer season in Ireland, with a new route from Dublin to Minneapolis and seasonal service from Shannon to New York-JFK starting in May.

With up to 33 weekly flights, Delta expects to bring thousands more American visitors to Ireland, connecting them from more than 200 destinations via Delta’s U.S. hubs in Atlanta, Boston, Minneapolis and New York-JFK to Dublin and via New York-JFK to Shannon.

According to statistics from Tourism Ireland, 72% of US visitors to the island of Ireland are holidaymakers, who stay longer and spend more than other visitors, tour extensively and are high users of premium products. On average, US holidaymakers stay in Ireland for 8.5 nights and typically, they each spend €900.

“We are excited to be expanding our footprint in Ireland next month, offering our customers a new Delta destination and more nonstop and one-stop travel options throughout the Americas from Ireland,” said Matteo Curcio, Delta’s Senior Vice President for Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India.

Delta’s convenient schedule between Ireland and the U.S. and the start of these new routes will boost trade and tourism opportunities here in Ireland thanks to thousands more available seats this summer," he added.

Both Delta’s new Dublin to Minneapolis and Shannon to New York-JFK flights will operate using Boeing 767-300 aircraft.
