Artist opens her latest exhibition in Clare
ARTIST Gina O’Connor has opened her Visual Art Exhibition in Kilkee for the remainder of May until June 16.
The exhibition, OUT OF THE BLUE, was officially opened by Ruth Wood in the Cultúrlann Sweeney, Kilkee Library in O’Connell Street, Kilkee on Saturday May 13.
Artist Gina O’Connor divides her time between Kilkee and Limerick. Her recent solo exhibitions Outside In (Scariff Library Gallery) and A Better Place (Clare Museum, Ennis) were described as “simple, soulful, honest, unpretentious and deeply captivating”.
Inspired by her love of the west of Ireland, Gina’s latest exhibition Out Of The Blue is a colourful collection of unique landscape and seascape oil paintings in a semi-abstract style.
Gina works mainly with brushes and palette knives and her work is characterised by her multicoloured marks which are sometimes thick and dramatic while at other times light and subtle.
Themes such as home, wonder, hope, nostalgia, and joy permeate her work.
She said she is often “surprised by the interesting and colourful shapes, figures and features that emerge Out of the Blue from this painting process”.
