Young woman appeals for help to improve her mum’s quality of life after leg amputation

A Cork woman has appealed for help to improve her mum’s quality of life after a leg amputation.
In May, Gretta Lehane unexpectedly had her leg amputated in the Mercy Hospital after being diagnosed with a rare blood condition.
A few weeks after her diagnosis and after post-operative complications, Ms Lehane’s doctors decided a second amputation was necessary to “save her life” and that her entire leg would have to be amputated.
Her daughter, Kayleigh, has set up a GoFundMe campaign in order to raise funds to improve her quality of life.
“As many of you know my Mam has had her leg amputated in May followed by a second amputation in June. I have set up a GoFundMe for the adaption of her home for her new needs going forward and for the quality of her life (such as personalised personal training to reach her prosthetic leg goal) amongst other things which have a large charge cost attached,” said Kayleigh on social media.
“My mam really was against me putting this up but I know if it was someone else she would be the first to want to help, anyone who knows this can vouch for that. She is honestly one of the most caring and generous people you would meet and has had a tough few years with the loss of my dad and nan.
“It is vital going forward that the home is made safe for her and her quality of life is not decreased any further than the amputation has already made it. Huge thank you to all for the support so far, we cannot thank you enough,” she added.
So far, €11,515 have been raised. You can donate to the fundraiser here.
