Woman dies in hospital following collision between car and bus

Serious road traffic incident happened in County Limerick almost three weeks ago
A female passenger in a car that was involved in a collision with a bus in county Limerick almost three weeks ago has died in hospital.
The woman was airlifted to Cork University Hospital with “serious injuries” following the road traffic incident near the village of Ballylanders on Saturday, October 26.
All of the occupants of the bus, thought to be around 20 children, were medically assessed at the scene on the R513. None required immediate hospital treatment.
There was a major response from emergency services with helicopters, firefighters, paramedics and gardai all attending the scene.
An Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) is investigating the now-fatal collision as it is understood an off duty member of An Garda Siochana was the driver of the car.
A spokesperson for GSOC said, at the time, that they received a referral from An Garda Síochána relating to a road traffic collision in Ballylanders.
“The referral was made by a garda superintendent under section 102(1) of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005. The matter is now under examination by GSOC further to section 91 of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005. As such, no further comment will be made at this time,” said the GSOC spokesperson.
Section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005, provides for independent investigation of any matter that appears to indicate that the conduct of a member of An Garda Síochána may have resulted in the death of, or serious harm to, a person.
GSOC appealed for witnesses to come forward in October.
"GSOC would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the road traffic collision or saw the grey Toyota Auris car driving in the area prior to the collision, or who may have captured it on CCTV, dashcams and/or on a mobile device.
"Anyone with information which may be of assistance to the investigation is asked to contact GSOC at 0818 600 800 or [email protected]"
GSCO was contacted this Friday following the death of the female passenger.
A spokesperson said: “This investigation remains open. As such, GSOC is not in a position to comment any further at this time.”
