'What the hell?' Social media goes ballistic over missing detail after Rose of Tralee 'crowning'

New Zealand’s Keely O’Grady was named 2024 Rose of Tralee
Some social media users have been left disappointed after the Rose of Tralee was crowned without a tiara.
A detail that did not go unnoticed by viewers who took it to social media to wonder where the iconic tiara was.
New Zealand’s Keely O’Grady was crowned as 2024 Rose of Tralee last night - but without a 'crown'.
The decision not to give the winner of the Rose of Tralee a tiara goes back to 2022 - a conscious choice, based on the public’s feedback.
The Rose of Tralee International Festival conducted a survey among the public about their views of the event.
And some of the feedback indicated that the public wanted to move away from the visual pageantry elements of the event, such as the tiara, and to move with the times.
But last night on social media, some viewers were left disappointed.
“Anyone know why the Rose of Tralee got no tiara tonight?,” one person asked.
“What the hell? Where’s her tiara?”, another person wrote.
Another person commented: “All the wans going on about new #RoseOfTralee not wearing a tiara/crown or wondering where it is. Rose of Tralee hasn’t worn a tiara in years and when they did, it always looked clunky and kept falling off the poor lady’s head! It looked pretty uncomfortable to wear too.”
