A HIGH temperature warning for Ireland is now in place for Ireland with Met Éireann forecasting temperatures as high as 28 degrees over the next two days.

The status yellow warning came into effect at 8am this Thursday and remains in place until 8am on Saturday.

Met Éireann says it will be very warm and humid daytime temperatures in excess of 27 degrees in many areas while nighttime temperatures will not fall below 15 degrees.

The national forecaster says the hot temperatures could lead to heat stress and uncomfortable sleeping conditions.

It is warning people to be vigilant, particularly around water as the weather will present an increased risk of water-related incidents.

The warning remains in place until 8am on Saturday.
