The journalist in the US wears four layers on his head alone!

An Irish journalist, who is in the US reporting the latest on the presidential campaign, is forced to wear multiple layers of clothing and protective gear for below -20° temperatures.

Sean Whelan, RTÉ Washington DC correspondent, is braving the cold in Iowa as voters decide who they want to be the next Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) shows Mr Whelan wrapped up tight in his cold-prevention gear, as he goes through what he wears on a daily basis to fight -23°c temperatures.

Sean wears waterproof boots and pants, two pairs of socks, long-johns, a thermal long-sleeved top, as well as a woollen roll-neck jumper, heavy duty fleece layer, scarves, gloves and two beanie hats. On top of this, he also wears a balaclava type protective layer on his face and head and to top it all off, a parka jacket with the hood up!

His televised report to the nation on RTÉ saw many social media users flock to different platforms to comment on his appearance, with people comparing Sean to the likes of historical explorer, Tom Crean in the Antarctic.
