Rain pushing up with heavy showers on the way - even a chance of spot flooding

Up to 10mm of rain is expected to fall over some parts of the country this weekend, with 'heavy showers' on route.

This Friday morning will see the sun rise over damp grounds, with sunny conditions expected to last into this evening over most of the country, the best of which will be in the west and southwest.

Patchy light rain or drizzle, mainly for northern and eastern parts of Ireland will see largely cloudy conditions there. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees this Friday.

However, 'heavy rain' is pushing up from southwest tomorrow, Saturday, from around lunchtime to cover the country.

Met Éireann are reporting 'generally unsettled weather with rain or showers' for the weekend.

Friday, May 24

Plenty of dry weather today with just some patchy light rain or drizzle, mainly for northern and eastern parts with largely cloudy conditions there. Some sunny spells elsewhere, the best of which will be in the west and southwest. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in light northwest to west breezes.

Mostly cloudy tonight in the north and for a time in the east with some mist patches just the odd spot of light rain or drizzle in Ulster. Lowest temperatures there of 7 to 10 degrees. Dry, clearer and cooler in the south and west with lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees. Light variable winds will become southeasterly later.

Saturday, May 25

Dry at first tomorrow but turning cloudy from the southwest. Through the morning, some patchy rain and drizzle will follow, turning more persistent in the afternoon, and slowly tracking northeastwards. Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees, mildest in Ulster with the best of the sunny spells and where it will stay largely dry till the evening. Southeasterly winds will increase moderate, occasionally fresh.

Rain over much of the country early in the night will continue to track northeastwards, clearing from the southwest to showers through the night. Some of the showers may be heavy. Temperatures not falling below 9 to 12 degrees in light southeasterly winds, veering southwesterly.

Sunday, May 26

The last of the rain will clear the north through the morning and early afternoon, leaving a day with a mix of cloud, sunny spells and scattered showers. Some of the showers will be heavy or possibly thundery with a chance of spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees generally, slightly cooler for Atlantic coasts, in mostly moderate southwest to west winds.

Clear spells with scattered showers gradually easing through the night. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in moderate westerly winds.
