A NUMBER of boats were found in an unusual mooring spot on a Galway pier in the wake of Storm Debi this Monday morning.

Galway man Paul O'Brien posted a pair of incredible pictures on X(formerly known as Twitter) of what appeared to be three boats brought to rest on top of the Claddagh Quay in Galway in the wake of the storm.

"Galway is used to storms but I’ve never seen boats washed up at the Claddagh before," Paul's post read. In a reply further down he stated he had taken the pictures around 8am this Monday morning.placeholder image

High tide in Galway occurred at approximately 4.50am in the morning, reaching a height of almost five metres. It appears that the quay wall was flooded by the storm tide, and that the boats drifted onto the the top of the pier before the tide receded.

Heavy winds and fallen trees have been reported across the rest of the country as local authorities respond to damage following the lifting of red and orange weather alerts.

A Status Yellow rain and wind warning remains in effect for all of Ireland.
