AN INCREASED threat of rodents has been recorded nationally.

Rentokil is now urging businesses to take action against the 5% increase in rats and mice that pose threats to their premises.

A 5% increase in callouts nationally since January 2023 has been recorded, compared to the same period (January to October) last year.

Colm Moore, area technical manager for Rentokil, said that the winter months increases the risk of unwanted vermin.

“Rentokil is encouraging home and business owners to be mindful of the presence of rodents in the winter period.

“Rodents will seek to find warm and sheltered areas to avoid the colder weather outdoors. Businesses need to be aware of the significant damage they can cause to properties and assets.”

The presence of rodents in a business also poses “a serious reputational risk”, as well as a health risk due to “the potential spread of diseases through their bodily fluids and excrement”.

Members of the public can find out more about signs of rodent infestations and how to discourage their presence on premises by visiting the Rentokil website.
