RTÉ star Maura Derrane details a 'bunny boiler' moment with Cillian Murphy

The presenter shared a cringe-worthy experience she had with the Oscar winner
What would you do if you spotted Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy in your local supermarket?
RTÉ star Maura Derrane did while on holiday in Dingle, Co Kerry, and she recalled the 'bunny boiler' encounter while standing in for RTÉ Radio One presenter Oliver Callan, live on air.
This Monday morning, March 11, Maura discussed the day she nearly met the 47-year-old Cork native, Cillian. She said: "I was down in Dingle about three or four years ago and we were shopping in Supervalu, because we were staying locally.
"My husband said 'did you see him?' and I said 'who?' and he says 'Cillian Murphy, he’s just over there behind the bread!
"I ended up a complete bunny boiler and I couldn’t find him, so I was running around looking for Cillian around SuperValu."
The RTÉ Today Show presenter said that she eventually saw the Oppenheimer star leaving the supermarket, and that he was "so casual, so relaxed and very very regular looking".
"He got into a car messier than mine, and I was like 'thank you'," Maura said. "His car was just a white, regular car - nothing flashy."
The 96th Oscars took place on the evening of Sunday, March 10.
Finishing her cringe-worthy anecdote, Maura noted that we as a nation are 'so proud' of both Cillian Murphy, who won Best Actor on the night and of Emma Stone who won Best Actress and has Irish connections.
Born in Douglas, Co Cork, Cillian has also won a Golden Globe, a Bafta and a Screen Actors Guild award for his starring role as theoretical physicist, J Robert Oppenheimer, in the biopic about the inventor of the atomic bomb.
Cillian said, upon being the first Irish-born actor to ever win an Oscar, that he was 'overwhelmed', but a "very proud Irishman".
"I am a very proud Irishman standing here tonight," Cillian said in his acceptance speech.
"We made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb and for better or for worse, we are all living in Oppenheimer's world."
Controversially, ITV's coverage of the 2024 Oscar ceremony also saw host Jonathan Ross trying to claim that Cillian was British.
