RTÉ confirms classic romcom will replace the Late Late Show amid shake-up in the schedule

Long-running chat show will not be broadcast this Friday night

RTÉ has confirmed the Late Late Show will not be aired this Friday night as the long-running chat show takes a break.

Presenter Patrick Kielty confirmed the news at the end of last week's show when he told viewers he would return on November 15.

"We're not here next week, but we'll be back on Friday the 15th with the star of Gladiator II Paul Mescal," he said.

The Late Late Show schedule has been shaken up since Patrick Kielty replaced Ryan Tubridy last year with a reduced number of shows being broadcast throughout the year while a small number of shows are pre-recorded.

This Friday night's show is being replaced by classic romcom Notting Hill which will air on RTÉ One television from 9.35pm.

Starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, the movie, which was released in 1999, tells the story of a recently-divorced bookshop owner who falls in love with a glamorous Hollywood film star.

Over on RTÉ 2, you can watch American Gangster, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe while Virgin Media One television will provide live coverage of the Autumn International between Ireland and the All Blacks at the Aviva Stadium.

Completing the terrestrial TV line, from 9pm will be Big Brother on Virgin Media Two and while TG4 will broadcast the 1969 western Guns of the Magnificent Seven
