Dolores Mackenzie, founder of Hairspray and The Hair Club, died on Saturday following a short battle with cancer

Tributes have poured in following the sad death of Irish entrepreneur and business owner Dolores Mackenzie, who has been described as a "trailblazer who made a difference to so many people's lives" and a "kind soul that will never be forgotten".

Dolores tragically passed away on Saturday August 23, 2025, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family in the tender care of The Cara Ward, St. Vincent's Private Hospital, following a short battle with cancer, just two months after the passing of her husband Roderick, who also died from cancer.

Dolores was the founder of the incredible Irish business Hairspray, a hair extensions service, before she opened The Hair Club, Ireland's first purpose-built wigs and hair boutique in Donnybrook, county Dublin, which helped thousands of women who were suffering from hair loss due to chemotherapy, alopecia, and other illnesses.

Following her death, Hairspray Ireland paid tribute to Dolores with a heartfelt message on social media which read,

"It’s with tremendous sadness giving you the news that Dolores passed away peacefully last night with her family. Dolores was passionate about her work, family, and friends and she loved her amazing dedicated team and fantastic customers at Hairspray and the Hair Cub

"25 years ago Dolores brought hair extensions and wigs to the mainstream in Ireland working tirelessly to strive to be the best version of herself while inspiring and training so many talented people to also be the best version of themselves.

"This vision was created through the groundbreaking hair companies she founded over 2 decades ago with the retail chain Hairspray and Hair Club.

"The last few months have been so hard as Dolores was informed of a terminal illness prognosis and she had to endure some real tough painful days medically which was followed by her husband Roderick's sudden death in June which caused her and her family so much pain and grief."

Dolores' son Warren also wrote a heartbreaking message for his beloved mother following her death,

"RIP Mum. This is the hardest post I ever had to write. Sadly, my mum, Dolores, passed away last night after a courageous battle with cancer. We were very close.

"She loved life, her family and friends, and her amazing companies and her cats," he added.

"My Mum's passing has only been compounded by my stepfather Rod's sudden death in June.

"My Mum died peacefully, but with a heavy heart. I'm heartbroken.”
