Late Late Show ended with a tribute to Saoirse who died aged 12

Patrick Kielty ended last night's Late Late Show with a heartfelt tribute to Saoírse Ruane, who died aged 12.

Saoírse, from Galway, was the inspiration for the annual Late Late Toy Show appeal. She died following a long illness.

Before the last night's show ended, Patrick Kielty paid tribute to the girl who helped "so many children and their families across Ireland."

"Before we go tonight, I'd just like to take a moment to remember Saoirse Rouen, who we all fell in love with on the Toy Show in 2020, and who passed away this week. We can only imagine what Saoirse's family is going through tonight, and we just want to add one thing to the many beautiful tributes paid to her over the past couple of days, and that is thank you," Kielty said.

"When Saoirse inspired the very first Toy Show appeal back then, little did any of us know that she was going to start something amazing. That in just four short years will help so many children and their families across Ireland. Saoirse lit a touch paper in the same way that she lit up our screens. And lit up the lives of her family and her friends.

"And we know that her light will continue to shine for so many, for so many years to come. From everyone on the Late Late Show, we send our love tonight to Saoirse's family," he continued.
