A mild but showery start to St Patrick's Day expected

The rain has returned with heavy showers expected to fall in some parts over the long weekend.

An accumulation of 10mm of rainfall can be expected in some parts of the country for Saturday, March 16 with the south and west expected to get the worst bout of it.

However, while a damp start can be expected for St Patrick's Day, conditions are likely to improve beginning in the south and moving up nationwide, though scattered showers will continue elsewhere until early evening.

Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees are forecast this St Patrick's Day, proving it to be quite a mild one.

Bank Holiday Monday and next week will see rain "above average" in some parts, with temperatures likely to be above average too countrywide.
