'Nothing short of a miracle' as young Cork man wakes up from coma

A fundraiser has been set up for Kevin Barry, who is 'not out of the woods yet'
A young Cork man has woken up from a coma after becoming ill in Italy. Italy s in an induced coma in Italy.
Kevin Barry of Glanmire, Co Cork, became very ill while on holiday in Rome with his family. The young man was rushed to emergency care on July 30 and had been in a medically induced coma.
To help the family cover the medical costs, friends have set up a fundraiser.
In an update posted on the fundraiser page, the organised said the young man was now able to breathe "without life support".
"Kevin has been receiving world-class care at the Gemelli Hospital, and as of today is awake and able to breathe on his own without life support. The doctors are happy with his progress but have said he has a long road ahead.
"Other members of Kevin’s family have joined his Mother in Rome to support Kevin as he continues to recover. The family have been blown away with the outpouring of love and support they have received and would like to thank you all for taking away the financial burden in such a worrying time.
"As Kevin is not out of the woods yet, we ask you to keep him in your thoughts and continue to pray for a full recovery. It is nothing short of a miracle what Kevin has achieved in the past two weeks," said the organiser of the fundraiser, Claire Connolly.
