Nine people were rescued by the fire service after an e-bike is believed to have gone on fire in a flat complex.

What was concerning about the incident was that the e-bike was not being charged when it caught fire, the fire service stated.

Dublin Fire Service confirmed that nine people were taken to safety following a fire off Francis Street.

"An e-bike battery (not on charge) in a stairwell is believed to be the source of the fire," they said in a statement.

"Firefighters are reminding residents to keep staircases clear as they are a primary escape route." they added. placeholder image
