A NEW interview series  on Virgin Media One with convicted criminal John Gilligan is set to be ‘a ground-breaking series’.

'Confessions of a Crime Boss' began yesterday evening on Virgin Media One and ‘sees Ireland's most notorious criminal lift the lid on his life of crime and the role his gang played in the murder of Veronica Guerin.’

Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast producer of the series David Harvey said:

"We made it because we were offered an opportunity to spend some time with John Gilligan. As an opportunity to put John Gilligan on the record for a company like ours, that specialises in making international crime television, it was too good an opportunity to miss."

The first episode took viewers back to John’s childhood and how a life of crime became normal to him from a young age.

In the first episode Gilligan said; “I am sorry I went into crime but I am not sorry for what I have done, it doesn't stop me from sleeping at night.”

Asked why he was doing this documentary John told Virgin Media; “The reason I am doing this is because of the Veronica Guerin story, it was the beginning of the end for me. I could sit here and play up for the cameras but at the end of the day I wasn't shocked when I heard she died.”

'Confessions of a Crime Boss' streams every Monday at 10pm on Virgin Media One.
