Met Éireann make one grim prediction in latest Ireland weather forecast

The Met Éireann forecast for the weekend and into next week does not make for good reading

Met Éireann has said Ireland's weather is going to take a twist in the coming days and it may not be good news for sunseekers.

While we will see some sunny spells over the next few days and into the weekend, beyond that it looks like an "Atlantic regime" is going to bring unsettled conditions.

In it's latest outlook, Met Éireann says it will be "cloudy and humid" on Wednesday "with patchy rain and drizzle, along with mist and fog on hills and some coasts. A few bright spells are possible at times, mainly in the midlands and east. Highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees. Southerly winds will increase mostly moderate, though will be a little fresher at times in coastal parts of the west and south.

"Generally cloudy with a few patches of rain or drizzle, mainly in Atlantic coastal areas [on Wednesday night]. Mild and humid with lowest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in moderate southwest winds."

For Thursday, they predict "a mostly cloudy day with scattered outbreaks of rain pushing eastwards over the country. During the afternoon and evening, rain will clear to sunny spells and just isolated showers. Maximum temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees with moderate southwest to west winds.

"Clear spells and isolated showers overnight [on Thursday]. Feeling cooler than previous nights with lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in moderate southwest winds.

"Sunny to begin on Friday, with a mix of sunny spells and passing showers. Turning cloudier through the afternoon, before becoming sunnier in the evening as showers gradually die out. Highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds," the forecast says.

Friday night will see long clear spells with just well scattered showers. Minimum temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in light southwest winds.

Saturday looks like being the best day of the week with "long dry and sunny spells likely with a band of showers passing through also. Maximum temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees in moderate westerly winds.

"Mostly dry overnight [on Saturday], with cloud increasing from the west, and just light rain possible in the northwest, along with a few mist or fog patches. Minimum temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees with light southwest winds.

"Likely a dry day [Sunday] with some sunny spells. Maximum temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees in moderate southwest winds."

Beyond that, they ominously say "current indications suggest that the early days of next week will return to a more Atlantic regime with rain at times."
