Suspect is being detained at a garda station in north Dublin
A man is being questioned by gardai in relation to the hijacking of a car in Dublin which had a baby girl in the rear rear.
The incident, which happened shortly before 2pm on Monday, led to the issuing of a Child Rescue Ireland alert which was later stood down after both the Nissan Qashqai car and five-month-old baby girl were located.
However, a major garda investigation is continuing and in an update, issued this Tuesday night, it was confirmed that an arrest has been made.
"Gardaí have arrested a man as part of the investigation into the hijacking of a vehicle in Mountjoy Square, Dublin 1 on Monday afternoon, September 23, 2024," read a brief statement issued by the Garda Press Office.
"The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested this evening for an offence contrary to the Criminal Law (Jurisdiction) Act, 1976, the Unlawful Seizure of Vehicles," it added.
The man is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in North Dublin.
Investigations are ongoing.
