Approximately 6.6 kg of herbal cannabis seized in Dublin by gardai and Revenue officers
A man is being questioned by gardai following a significant drugs seizure in the Blanchardstown area of Dublin.
As part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers seized approximately 6.6 kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated street value of €132,000, on Thursday evening.
"The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), and the K District Divisional Drugs Unit, Dublin," said a Revenue Spokesperson.
Gardai have confirmed a man, in his 30s, was arrested during the operation and that he is currently being detained, under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996, at a garda station in Dublin.
Subject to court orders, he can be held, without charge, for up to seven days.
Both gardai and the Revenue say investigations are ongoing.
A Revenue spokesperson added that the seizure is part of its ongoing joint operations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
"If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295," they added.
