Limerick man raises funds for hospital staff who helped granddaughter

A Limerick man is taking on a challenge to raise funds for the hospital staff who helped his granddaughter.
Malachy Hayes, from Lough Gur, Co Limerick, is organising a fundraiser for the neonatal unit of University Maternity Hospital Limerick, after they helped his granddaughter.
"I run a busy farm and would be relatively fit. My youngest granddaughter and god-child Shauna was born in December 2022 nearly 7 weeks early and went on to spend the first two weeks of her life in neonatal where the staff cared for her so very well," said Malachy on his fundraiser page.
This June, Malachy will run 7km to raise funds for the hospital - one kilometre for each week of his granddaughter's early arrival.
"It will be on Sunday, June 23 at 11am, on the grounds of John the Baptist Secondary School. All funds raised will go to Limerick Neonatal Unit in the maternity hospital. They do tremendous work day in and day out looking after vulnerable babies, which isn't always easy. Anyone that wants to join me on the run or support me from the sideline is more than welcome to come along. Thanks for your support it is greatly appreciated," he said.
