Road racer Anthony O’Carroll suffered 'significant head trauma'
The parents of a Kerry man severely injured in a motorbike crash have been left 'overwhelmed' by the support shown by their community.
Road racer Anthony O'Carroll from Ballyduff, 27, was injured during the 2024 Southern 100 Road Races on the Isle of Man.
The young man was taken to Nobles Hospital and then airlifted to Walton Centre in Aintree University Hospital Liverpool. Since the accident, he has been in the ICU.
As a result of the accident, Anthony suffered a “significant head trauma” and will require a lot of rehabilitation in the future.
His parents, Mary and Neilus, flew from Ireland to bed at their son’s bedside.
In an update shared on a GoFundMe campaign, to which you can donate here, Anthony's parents thanked the public for their support.
"We’re truly overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity and thoughtfulness. It exceeded all our expectations and we’re beyond grateful. Because of your generous donations we can stay by Anthony’s bedside to support him on his long road to recovery. Your kind gesture has significantly impacted us and we can’t thank you all enough. May God bless you all for your generosity. Please keep us in your prayers, as we will with you all."
To help Anthony and his family through this difficult time, a GoFundMe campaign was set up.
"Anthony is a much loved son, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend and a valued member of his communities in Ireland, Australia and also the road racing community. His family are known far and wide, and are well respected in the motor trade. Anthony himself is a third generation motor mechanic. Anthony always has a real zest for life, and his passion in life is his love for motorbikes which is always evident by his infectious smile and that famous smile we all want to see again,” read a note of the fundraiser page.
Anthony as a strong, kind and caring young man, who is well respected in his community.
"He always encourages himself to do his best with everything he does such as work, racing, and helping where he can, and knowing the competitive streak going through his body he most certainly is doing that right now. Since the news of Anthony’s crash a significant amount of support has been shown to both family and friends, and on behalf of us all we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone during this challenging time."
