The Metropole Hotel in Cork City is looking to unravel a mysterious note left behind by four tradesman over 50 years ago.

The note was found within the walls of the lobby after it was demolished due to refurbishment works at the popular hotel located on MacCurtain Street in Cork city.

The note, dated July 1969, reads,

"With love from - Tommy Ross (electrician), Jerry Higgins (carpenter), Steve Casey (painter), and John Keogh (plumber).

Now the hotel is on the hunt for the four elusive men to invite them back to the hotel that they worked on all those years ago to see the new lobby and restaurant when it reopens.

In a post on Instagram, the hotel said,

"A heartwarming piece of history has emerged at The Metropole Hotel.

"Behind the walls of our lobby, we found a note dated 1969, signed by four craftsmen who helped shape this space: Tommy Ross, Jerry Higgins, Steve Casey, and John Keogh.

"We’d love to welcome them back and hear their stories. Can you help us find them?

Speaking on RTÉ Radio 1 this morning, General Manager of the hotel Louise McNamara said,

"It would be really exciting to hear the stories of the electrician, plumber, painter and carpenter who obviously worked on the lobby in 1969 and to see what they think of the refurb 56 years later."
